It began as a spontaneous sing-along around the piano one night. Larry Gatlin, Eva Mae Lefevre and a small group of gospel greats—the Cathedrals, the Speers, the Goodman Family and the Blackwood Brothers—began singing just for fun. And though no one knew at the time, a wonderful new series of concerts, albums and videos was born.

Sitting on the sidelines, Bill Gaither had the footage taped for his own collection. (All the singers were his long-time gospel music heroes.) When the lengthy tape was edited down to its final 58-minute package, the result was more than a personal memento. That video was the first in a wildly successful, much-loved series Gathier termed “Homecoming.”

Though the next concerts were not spontaneous events, they held on to the same genuine feel of that very first sing-along: just a group of singers having fun praising the Lord together.
